Great Day Crew!
Most people love powder . . . I am not saying I don’t love skiing bottomless snow! But there is nothing quite like skiing steep alpine lines from the summit of a mountain; add sunshine and good friends and that’s what I call living !!
The weather went high pressure after one day of being home from the coast !!
Here are a few pictures from the last few days . . . and a little video of my friends loving life !

ACMG: Assistant Ski Guide Touring Training.
I just recently finished the 3rd of the 3 Assistant Ski Guide Training courses. This last course was the ski touring course held on the Coast. We spent 7 days training and ski touring around the Whistler and Duffey Lake area. Most of this terrain was new to me, making the training difficult and a great learning experience . The challenge of on-sighting terrain from your map is such a great skill to have and something I find challenging and exciting trying to perfect.
The course was instructed by three very knowledgeable Mountain Guides, Steve Ludwig, Helen Sovdat, and Matt Peter. We spent one day skiing off Whistler Resort, three days two nights of winter camping on the Duffey, and our last day off Blackcomb Ski Resort.
With good feedback and coaching along the way I have now been recommended to take the ACMG Assistant Ski Guide Exam!
Looking like the Rockies. . .STOKED !!
Now It is back to “Training” !!

There is nothing better than a sunny day in the alpine, standing on a snow covered summit, and skiing amazing untracked powder. Yesterday was one of those days that made me smile all day. . . and it was not just because my cheeks were frozen!
Kate, Sam, and I started up the Asulkan Valley towards Sapphire Col, and then climbed the west ridge of Castor; a sub peak of Mount Jupiter. On the summit (2777m) Kate and I serenaded Sam with a “Happy Birthday”song:)
Carefully down climbing off the summit, I was happy to click into my skis again! We skied south onto the Swanzy Glacier, with a short bump to the Col, and fresh tracks down the Lily Glacier. With daylight fading we managed to milk every last bit of light, skiing out of the Loop Brook Valley. Skis off and thumbs out. . .lucky to hitch a ride back to the Asulkan Parking lot where we left my truck.
